How much do wedding & reception venues cost?

The cost of wedding venues varies, with factors influencing cost including size, location, guest count, and, most importantly, whether things like catering and rentals are included. The more a reception venue near you includes, the higher the cost. When considering venues, try to compare prices apples-to-apples. If one venue includes catering and rentals in their pricing and the other doesn’t, you need to figure out how much additional cost those outside vendors would be to make a true comparison. Before booking, be sure you’re aware of additional costs outlined in your contract, like parking fees and weather-related considerations (adding a tent, etc.).

What questions should we ask wedding venues?

When talking with a potential venue, always ask about 1) their availability and 2) their capacity. Some popular venues book up peak season Saturdays nearly 2 years in advance—if your first choice date isn’t available, consider your flexibility on day of the week and year. While maximum capacity is non-negotiable, venues might have guidance on what guest count will be most comfortable. Also, you’ll want to understand what is and is not included in the venue’s fees. Some include catering, tables and chairs, and linens, while others offer just the raw space. These venues are often less expensive because you are only paying for the space itself, and you’ll have to bring in outside vendors

“We couldn’t have been happier with our experience at Deity. The space is really eclectic in the best way. It balances elegance with a little Brooklyn quirk, especially in the cocktail hour room, which all of our guests loved. From start to finish, the planning process was simple and straightforward. You have one big meeting where everything gets laid out. After that, Anastasia, Caio, and the rest of the team were always quick to respond to emails when we needed to make adjustments. They were professional, organized, and made sure both we and our families felt taken care of throughout the day. Having almost everything in-house (e.g., everything less flowers, cake, photography) also made the whole process less stressful. Compared to other venues we looked at, Deity felt like a value and a way to make our guests feel like they were having an "authentic" NYC/Brooklyn wedding. The food and drinks were another highlight. “My husband and I got married two weeks ago at The Sanctuary and had the best night! Our guests loved the many features of the venue (the pier, patio, tent, and indoor space), complimented the food and drinks, and we were all extremely impressed by the high quality service provided by the bartenders and waiters. Throughout the planning process we worked closely with Alfonso. Alfonso does a great job selling The Sanctuary and was available to answer our questions along the way. There were definitely some things we needed to dig into a bit more than we thought we’d have to - creating a detailed timeline for the day based a few examples provided, develop clearer floorplans of the venue for our vendors to ensure they understood the space, putting together a table map for our dinner setup, renting/purchasing the sound equipment needed for our ceremony on the pier, finding an alternative rehearsal space, and hiring a day of coordinator to support with decor, set-up, flow, and cleanup. Reading other reviews of the venue was super helpful to ensure we were asking the right questions and following up on pieces that seemed unclear. If you’re looking for an affordable (relative to the rest of NYC), dynamic, and interesting wedding venue, and you’re willing to put in the work or hire a wedding planner, this is definitely a great contender!”
