I was that kid enchanted by Disney Princess movies and the idea of "true love". My true love revealed itself through photography. At 8, I grabbed my dad's camera and was hooked, thrilled to show people my world. I started with zoo animals, friends, and siblings, eager to freeze moments in time. As I grew, I learned from local photographers and knew by 17 that photography was my calling. Since then, I’ve captured love in all its forms: couples, new parents, best friends, and the joy of seeing your favorite band live. The world is full of magical firsts, and I'm honored to capture these moments forever.

Kaitlyn was absolutely the best. I loved her photography style at first sight and then after an initial call my partner and I knew right away she was who we wanted to work with for our wedding. She is funny, but still professional. She is SO incredibly supportive throughout the day and went above and beyond to help with other little wedding tasks that us laypeople do not think to learn such as putting in your veil and attaching boutonnieres with minimal pins. Kaitlyn checked in on me and made sure I, the bride, was doing okay if something seemed off. She wasn't just our photographer, she felt like a huge part of our wedding party that day and a reason that so much went perfectly. We gave her a shot list, but also trusted her ideas and we absolutely loved all the photos we have received so far. The sneak peak was in so fast the next morning and was such a satisfying amount of photos that gave us enough to savor the day and look at while on our honeymoon, but also left us excited to see more!! Last but not least, I thought her prices were incredibly fair for her fantastic services. I would recommend her over and over. All our guests commented how amazing she seemed as well and we even had a friend book her literally a week after our wedding :) She's the best.

If I could give more stars… I would. Kaitlyn was truly a dream to work with! Her and her second shooter (Jake) truly felt more like friends than photographers for the day. They fit right into the day and it made our day so much more fun. I will give warning, you will have to be ready to be obsessed with your photos, and look at them about 50 times a day. Definitely not speaking from experience, AND I only have the sneak peak photos (writing this only two weeks after our wedding day). Kaitlyn is a professional but she makes your time with her fun and effortless. She great at communicating with you about what you want from your day, and how she can provide you with the best photos. I am so sad our day is over and I won’t get to see her and work with her any time soon, but trust me, I will be finding more excuses to work with her again. BOOK WITH KAITLYN JOHNSTON PHOTOGRAPHY!!!

I would highly recommend working with Kaitlyn for your weddings and events!! 10/10, across the board. Her photo packages are also worth more than the current prices considering the quality of her work and her professionalism. The pictures turned out beautifully and I'm so glad she was able to capture so many candid shots. On the day of the wedding, Kaitlyn was friendly and made us feel comfortable during photos which was amazing during such a busy day. When I was researching Chicago photographers within our budget, Kaitlyn's prices were roughly in the middle of others we were looking at, but I could tell that Kaitlyn's portfolio was the best. Whimsy and heart with a good variety of photo type, framing, play with lighting, and a mix of candid and posed shots. I appreciated her responsiveness and detail in answering my emails. Even before meeting in person, I noticed Kaitlyn's professionalism through her website and emails. Her website and photo portal are also easy to navigate. It's clear she's put time and effort into her business and capturing so many special days. Would highly recommend working with her, we are so glad we did 3

We’ve known Kaitlyn for a while and were so honored to have her capture our wedding events! She was there for the proposal, engagement shoot, rehearsal dinner, and the wedding day! Kaitlyn is so fun to be around and so incredibly talented! We really appreciated her “fly on the wall” approach so we could just enjoy ourselves and live in the moment without having to worry about posing. Looking forward to having her capture many more of our milestones in the future :)

Yes! As a member of the community myself, I’m always so excited to work with LGBTQ+ couples & make sure all of my contracts + forms are completely gender-free & ask for your pronouns so that everybody can be comfortable + referred to properly during their session!

Yes, I do! More than happy to send over proof of insurance for anyone who needs it!

I do! Just let me know if your venue requires a certificate of liability, and I’ll send that over to them.

I’m sure we’ve all heard horror stories about photographers losing irreplaceable images due to equipment failures, I do everything in my power to make sure this never happens! Every camera I use during a session saves all images taken onto two different memory cards at once & I import them the second I get home! After importing, I keep one set on my laptop, one set on my external hard drive, & one set in cloud storage so that if anything were to happen, I still have a backup I can access. I also will never use a memory card for another session until your photos have been fully edited & delivered.

Yes, I offer packages both with and without them! My husband Jake is my second most of the time! In the case that he is not available for your wedding day, I do have a handful of other photographers I work with regularly and I’ll be able to let you know about 1 week out who your second is going to be so you at least know names!

Being in front of a camera is scary at first for everybody. I’m personally SO awkward in photos and can understand your struggle. Because of that, I keep all of my sessions fun and full of movement to get rid of some of those awkward feelings! I’ll never tell you exactly how to stand, physically change the way you’re doing anything, etc. instead I use posing prompts and ques to have your genuine emotions and personality show through the photos!

This varies from event to event but on average you’ll receive 50-100 fully edited images per hour of coverage!

Yes! I love when I get to supply prints! You get a personalized print store with your gallery + all prints get delivered by yours truly!

We can’t control the weather so I prefer to just embrace if for your big day! Wind, rain, clouds, or snow all have the potential to add personality to your photos! *within reason If it’s unsafe for you, me, or my gear, we’ll either 1. Find some cute umbrellas or 2. Find a cozy indoor spot somewhere!

Yes, please! I keep snacks and water on me to keep me going since I’ll be on my feet all day but while you + your partner are eating, my second + I will too so we don’t miss a beat! We ask that you coordinate that with your caterer as well.

You’ll be sent a preview of your photos within 24hrs of your wedding + then you’ll receive the full online gallery with digital download + printing rights 6-8 weeks after your wedding day!

No, I prefer focusing on photography only, so you can get the best wedding pictures possible. I can absolutely send you recommendations for videographers I love tho!
