Purslane is part of The Oberon Group, a Brooklyn neighborhood-focused restaurant group with a commitment to sustainability. We started Purslane in 2012 as a way to serve our community outside of our restaurants. Sustainability wasn’t part of our origin story, but we realized we had an opportunity to make a difference in one of the most wasteful industries out there. We are seasoned experts in executing corporate events of all sizes, ranging from galas and banquets, to private dinners, to multi-day conferences for hundreds of guests, to weekly lunch drop-offs for your whole office.

We are proud to be the first zero waste and carbon neutral catering company in the world. We create experiences for our broad range of clients, from intimate dinners to large-scale weddings and events. In an industry that is traditionally one of the most wasteful, Purslane is committed to delivering excellent food, hospitality, and service while building a movement for positive environmental impact.     We had our wedding on October 20, 2025. Our venue was the Montauk Club and although we liked the venue, we unfortunately would not recommend Purslane as the caterers. Purslane was not our first choice but it was the only catering choice given by the venue. We initially felt confident about going forward with Purslane because of the numerous reviews online about its food and service. Later in the planning, we developed more reassurance after the tasting. Unfortunately, the food on the day of our wedding did not taste the same as it did at our tasting, and the dessert was completely different. When this was brought to Purslane’s attention after the event, we weren’t even offered an apology for the dessert difference. But instead, we were told that we discussed the difference and agreed to such though no evidence was shown about this communication. It was very disappointing to hear and suspicious especially since our final event order was edited on the day of our wedding. Also, when finalizing the event order, the event producer mentioned that some requested notes would not be visible on the signed order but will be within catering notes that only they could see. So, download everything because once changes are made you can’t see past documentations. Lastly, our event producer was not as helpful as we had hoped. We were often given the impression that they were doing us a favor by fulfilling our requests and at some point it felt that they didn’t even want to talk with us anymore but rather with our wedding coordinator. I believe as a service provider you would want to talk to the individuals actually paying for the event.

    As a planner, I work with so many caterers, and Purslane stands out among them all. The food completely surpasses any "wedding food" I have ever had, and they are one of the rare caterers that excels equally at sweet and savory preparations. I'm still dreaming about the sea bass, the hanger steak, the butternut squash gnocchi, and the almond cookies. And so much of their stuff happens to be gluten-free (but still amazing)! The Purslane team are warm, kind, and prompt, always willing to share advice and knowledge about every part of planning a wedding (which is essential when working at a unique wedding like the Prospect Park Boathouse). Their commitment to being carbon-neutral and kind to the planet means a lot to me as a vendor in an often-wasteful industry. The meal, including the appetizer spread, was lush and abundant, but there was much less food waste than I normally witness. Hire Purslane if you want a partner in planning as well as an amazing caterer.

    Purslane was a dream to work with, and we could not have imagined a more perfect caterer for our wedding. The food was to die for. So many of our guests told us it was the best food they've ever had at a wedding—and we agree! Choosing all the food was so fun and easy, and our event manager at Purslane walked us through all our options, pointing out favorites and making accommodations to let us choose something off the standard family-style menu as well (highly recommend the short ribs with polenta!). We also had some dietary restrictions—one we were made aware of just two weeks before the wedding—and they ensured all guests had delicious options to meet all restrictions. All communication for our venue was done through Purslane too, and they helped us arrange all the rentals, create the run of show, and ensure the night ran along as planned, which it did! They went above and beyond every step of the way. They helped us figure out how to move our cocktail hour to a new space within the venue when a new exhibit went up a few weeks before our wedding that wasn't very well suited to a wedding environment. The waitstaff was so kind and made sure we always had a drink in hand, had our coats ready for us at the end of the night, and even set aside a plate of appetizers for us to be sure we could both greet all our guests and eat all our apps. Overall 10/10, we would highly recommend booking Purslane for a truly seamless night with insanely delicious food.

    Absolutely thrilled with our experience with Purslane! From start to finish, they went above and beyond to make our wedding day perfect. The Prospect Park Boathouse venue itself is nothing short of spectacular—a beautiful historic building in the heart of Brooklyn. The architecture alone made for the most stunning backdrop for our ceremony and reception. Beyond the beauty of the space, the service was truly top notch. The team was incredibly attentive, professional, and made us feel like our event was their top priority. From the planning stages through to the last dance, they were organized, seamless, and took care of every detail, allowing us to relax and enjoy our day. And of course, the food was outstanding! We received so many compliments from our guests about how delicious everything was. Every dish was beautifully presented, and we loved how they incorporated local, seasonal ingredients. Whether it was the passed hors d’oeuvres, the plated dinner, or the dessert table, everything was a hit.
