About this venue

Indiana Landmarks Center shows that when a great historic building loses its original purpose, it need not be the end of the story. The Romanesque Revival-style building at 1201 Central Avenue began life in 1891 as Central Avenue Methodist Church, with additions in 1900 and 1922. For decades, it housed the largest Methodist congregation in the state. For your wedding, Indiana Landmarks Center offers a setting like no other.

Our event spaces

Cook Theater

Constructed in 1900 and connected to the original building, Cook Theater is both large and intimate, a feat fostered by the rich, intricately patterned wood walls and ceiling, outstanding acoustics, and original chandelier. The main soaring theater space is surrounded by rooms that open to the theater on the main level and mezzanine. The proscenium stage, equipped with theatrical lighting, sound system, video projection, and a Yamaha C3 piano, has been used for concerts and small theatrical productions.

Guest capacity

200-250 Seated

Included in this room:

Cook Theater offers the ultimate convenience of accommodating a reception following a wedding or performance. The space can accommodate a 350-person dinner or a 50-person banquet while retaining the lively atmosphere of a social event. Surrounding rooms may be closed off for an intimate setting or opened to increase the room’s seating capacity.

Lobby and Courtyard

Surrounded by gardens and large planted urns, Place de Basile—a brick-paved entrance court—welcomes you to Indiana Landmarks Center, with an enormous stained glass window as a backdrop. In warmer months, it is an ideal area for outdoor pre- or post-event receptions.

Grand Hall

What began as a theater-style church sanctuary in 1891 functions as an ideal venue for weddings and other ceremonies, concerts, choirs and soloists, film screenings, auctions, speeches and panel discussions. “Wow” is the most common reaction among people entering the Grand Hall for the first time. The stenciled and gilded features—walls, dome and organ pipes—add to the historic atmosphere. With stage lights and computer-controlled colored lighting effects, we can bathe the domed ceiling, chandelier, and central dome in colored light of your choosing, or orchestrate a changing show.

Guest capacity

Up to 500 Seated

Included in this room:

For weddings, the Grand Hall offers the look and feel of a church without the restrictions, and the reception can be held steps away in the adjacent Cook Theater. The balcony creates an excellent vantage point for dramatic wedding photos.

Morris-Butler House

Built in 1865 in the Second Empire style, Morris-Butler House is an ideal rental venue for smaller weddings, receptions, dinners, and other special events, educational programs, and small meetings.Rental spaces on the first floor—all furnished with antiques—include the formal parlor, dining room, and library. The rooms have rich color schemes, decorative painting, and the high ceilings and nearly floor-to-ceiling windows typical of high Victorian interiors.

I was very pleased with working with the team at the Indiana Landmark! We absolutely love this venue and we are so glad we chose it for our wedding day! It was a pleasure working with Tara and April through out my wedding planning process. We worked extremely well together and my planning expertise helped the process of working with them! It was smooth sailing from the day we booked the venue all the way up until the rehearsal and day of! I am so glad I got to work with this wonderful team and I look forward to booking some of my own clients there in the future! Thank you so much again
